Directors ID

The Australian Taxation Office have announced any Directors of a company, registered Australian body, registered foreign company or Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander corporation, must now apply for a Director Identification Number. The due dates to create these Identifications are as follows:

  • Existing directors have until 30 November 2022 to apply.

  • New directors appointed between 1 November 2021 and 4 April 2022 must apply within 28 days of their appointment.

  • From 5 April 2022, intending directors must apply before being appointed.

Steps for creating your Director ID

  1. Set up myGovID
    If you don’t already have a myGovID, you will need to apply for one here.

  2. Gather your documents
    You will need to provide personal information as held by the ATO to verify your identity. More information this is available here.

  3. Complete your application
    Apply for your Director ID

If you are unable to apply for your Director ID online, other options include:

  • Paper application: This option will be a lot slower and require certified copies of your verification documents.

  • Phone: 13 62 50. You will need to have your verifying documents with you to provide information during the call.
